My boyfriend is starting work on the 4th of December out in the mines, so he won't be able to make it for our birthday celebrations this year round. Given that he wont get time away, and Christmas is a fair while away, we decided to do a pre-birthday weekend away (or shall i say, long weekend) to celebrate instead.

It all started on sunday when we checked into Joondalup Resort on a very hot summer's day. Unfortunately, being the boy that he is, the boyfriend forgot to pack one VERY important weekend away item - boardies / swimmers. So, there we were in the 30 plus heat sweltering away whilst walking pass the giddy children in the swimming pool. Not too worry, we decided to stay in and just sit under the air conditioning.

For dinner, we went off to Char Char Bull in lovely Freo for my brother's birthday (pics up when I find my brother's digicam). After dinner, we decided that we wanted to get active so the boys whipped out their cricket gear (as you do), and we played cricket out on the esplanade at approximately 10pm (as you do). hehe nonetheless, I think my efforts of bowling out Coombsie (i think it was Coombsie) and scoring what seemed like a century (ha!) was well deserved :)

After dinner, we trekked all the way back to Joondalup - yup, freo to joondalup is one heck of a long trip ... 45 minutes later, we collapsed (or shall I say I collapsed) onto the bed and fell asleep.

Now.. my bf has the strangest sleeping habits. We assume this was brought on because a little while he decided to be "clever" (rolls eyes) and instead of taking a nice eight hour chunk of prolonged sleep (like normal people do), he decided that he would make the use of the day by taking four two hour naps to equal 8 hours. (Who does that?!) But anyway, because of this, he can no longer sleep like normal people do. So, he tried his best to keep me up all night by flicking my noise, pinching my cheeks and being annoying at his best ...

So, monday started off with two very tired people having breakfast at Hillary's Boat Harboir... but it became a day of birthday shopping for gifts and pressies...

This is a dangerous sort of shopping. There are two types of people when this occurs - there's the greedy-rub-your-hands-eyes-glisten type who blow budgets and pick up each and everything they want, and the i-dont-want-to-spend-too-much-of-your-dollars type person. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), I fell in the second category and so did he. So we were rather restrained with our purchases, with books, bags, knitting stuff (hehe that's mine) and shoes amongst the goodies.

After shopping, we were supposed to go to the winery but failed to get there because of sheer exhaustion so instead went to Portofino's for a very yummy dinner and then back to the hotel for sleep. This time, I slept and he read books all night. (silly sleeping habits).

Tuesday was Il Padrino's for pizza , a bit of shopping and a nice rest home.

So, we didn't get up to too much, but it sure felt good to take a few days off work and head off for a getaway with the boy who comes up once a month. I'm looking forward to christmas, where we will be headed off to Esperance *woot*.

The other day I came across a document that was part of the executive meeting, and it said something like

"Salary reviews are scheduled to take place in December. In order to inform the decision , *** is currently undertaking a review across industry. As these results are not due until end of December 2006, a rate of 5.0% will be applied to all staff salaries".

Does that mean I only get a 5.0% payrise regardless?!?!?!? STINGY~~~

I am hoping for 5.0% in line with CPI + Performance of 10-15%... we'll see.. HMPH

One of the perks of my job is that I get invited to lots of very interesting events (and sometimes not so interesting events).

I was invited to the Aarena event by Allens Arthur Robinson tonight, which was the launch of the "Awesome Festival" by Artrage, held at the Artrage Bakery Complex, and may I just plog that it really is an awesome art exhibition. I had a lot of fun with the lawyers playing on the interactive arts exhibitions they had, stomping on people, burning retinas and turning lights off at the exhibition. May I just plog that if anyone is in Northbridge towards James Street, I highly recommend going to the Bakery to have a squiz.

Anyways, as part of my job, I also get to meet a lot of interesting and not so interesting people. Besides other mining types, I tend to meet quite a few lawyers and accountants. In the past, I must admit, the accountants have always been extremely dull networking types, and more often than not, the lawyers too.

But I was pleasantly pleased as I was being intro'd to the others at the Launch by my AAR contact, that AAR lawyers are by far the most interesting types I have encountered (and yes xin, that includes you haha). They had fantastic sense of humours, yapped for so long, and the best part? They didnt tell me all about their work, or ask me all about their work. They knew how to build rapport, and really engage with people.

So yes, double plog tonight for the lawyers at AAR, and for the Awesome Arts Festival.

Jess and I have been avoiding going shopping with each other for a few months now because we know that when we're in each other's company, we always go a little crazy because we always manage to find fabulous buys for each other's tastes...

So anyways, today we got together (with Mish for a short while) to go shopping. We were pretty good at the Alannah Hill sale , although i can't say much about Mish - though i'm sure she'll post about her crazy "im not trying anything on just going to buy and alter" spree heheheh..

But anyways, I ended up buying the Alannah Hill "Dancing Up a Storm" Dress - Pure silk, very sheer and very much like this.. (someone is selling the same dress on ebay). Anyways... it's a little bit big for me , and it's also very sheer. I have no idea what type of slip to wear with it, and whether I can alter it...But anyways, should I keep it or should I sell it ??

We managed to get a few things each today, after travelling to Subi and Garbo to complete our shopping day. All in all, pretty satisfied, but once again, realize that Jess + Kae shopping = giddy grumpy girls if nothing is bought hehehe

Anyways, on another topic, sorry for lack of photos lately. Here are a few from underground last week:

A picture since my blog seems to be all text :

But... shopping here I come!!! (hmm what can i buy with $36??)

A bit of a pointless post really...

It often surprises people when I tell them how much I love it out on site. The dirt, the remoteness (but only for awhile!!), the vast expansiveness of the red sand, the fantastic comraderie between each mine worker - i love it all, and I love being able to get away from the office and out on site.

The things I love about site however, are all limited to what we call "surface operations". Things that take place above surface , and in the bright lights (unless of course, you're on a night shift), and where that expansiveness and red dirt just go on forever.

These things however, don't exist in the underground. Dark, humid (think 30 degrees and 90% humidity), and lacking in that openness, it really is an experience that is unique by all means.

The dangers of underground are at a scale a notch above that of surface - what happens if there's a rockfall (rescue teams can't get to you quickly), what happens if there's a fire, what happens if you need to stay in that underground refuge chamber with 5 other big blokes, not knowing when the rescue team is going to come?

I don't understand why anyone would willingly *choose* to work in such an environment. Except of course, my significant other. Out of all the places in the world that he could freely choose to work, he wants to spend his time underground.

It bugs me, it frightens me, and it gives me wrinkles. But I suppose that's something I need to come to terms with, being the significant other of a mining engineer :S

I wish to advise that the 5 Footers netball team's season has come to an end, with a semi-final defeat to the top team.

That is all.

Supa Dupa Girl-Kae is the eldest of three kae's and is therefore the supa dupa one of the lot (as given to me by Alvin). Currently residing in Perth, WA, Girl-Kae is a happy go lucky bubbly girl, who loves to shop, eat, and sleep. When she's not working, she can be found at home being a homebody, glued to the screen watching enormous amounts of drama series, out eating icecreams and cakes, and shopping till her heart's content.
